This year, AKBAR’s set to blow, starting with his new single ‘YRBG’ (an acronym for ‘Young Righteous Black Girl’) — as well as his second single  ” Everlasting Thought ( Gotta Keep Movin) ” an anthem for the culture that gives  insight to the mind of young black men in  the inner cities.

Originally an all-city and district high school football star, AKBAR turned down a potential football career to pursue engineering. When he left college due to financial hardships, he soon picked up a pen and started making music at home. He was quickly signed to indie label Super Nova by R&B legend Karyn White, who was blown away by a series of demos he’d produced using only his laptop and cellphone.

AKBAR first began rapping as a little boy — his sisters would tease him because he had a speech impediment. Looking back, the emerging hip-hop star realizes that all the obstacles and experiences he faced were leading him on a deeper path to greatness: “I always knew I had the ability to do something great buried within, I just didn’t know how to mine it out. You just have to know you can. Knowing it – that’s the key.
